Enough homesickness.
In the dialect of north-east Portugal, bonda means “enough”, “that will do”. It’s short for abonda, from the verb abondar, from the Latin abundare, “to abound”. People here say it straight, no ceremony: “Bonda!”, enough already.
To English ears it also sounds like bond, and that’s the other half of the idea: a place that brings people together.
Bonda was born out of homesickness, the kind everyone from here knows. Until we’re back for good, we tell the story of home: to people who live here, people who miss it, and people who haven’t found it yet.
Most of our content is in Portuguese. The English section is for anyone thinking of visiting, studying, working remotely or settling in Bragança: start here.
What’s next
First the stories, then meetups. The first ones are planned for August and Christmas 2027, when emigrants come home and the town fills up again. One day, if there’s enough interest, a physical space in Bragança.
It’s cold outside. Inside, there’s warmth and good people.
